Position Summary and Responsibilities Pennwood Cyber Charter School seeks a dedicated and certified School Social Worker to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Special Education, the Social Worker supports the school’s academic mission by strengthening home, school, and community partnerships while addressing barriers to learning.
This role significantly contributes to a safe, caring, and supportive environment by advancing the understanding of students’ emotional and social development, the impact of family and community, and the use of effective intervention strategies. The Social Worker provides tiered interventions, social-emotional instruction, and individualized support to students and families across Pennsylvania. The Social Worker will be required to travel, as needed, to support families, testing, and school events across Pennsylvania. Travel may occasionally require overnight stays.
Key Responsibilities - Support the instructional program by fostering a culture of achievement.
- Design and implement programs for students and families addressing interpersonal adjustment and social-emotional development.
- Collaborate with school teams to connect families with school and community resources to remove barriers to attendance and academic success.
- Participate in developing and implementing crisis prevention and management plans.
- Coordinate with teachers to identify students who are at risk or in crisis, serving as the primary point of contact for these students and families.
- Report and refer incidents that jeopardize student well-being in compliance with law, regulations, and professional standards.
- Attend training related to child welfare, foster care, homelessness, and other social work issues, and provide related training to staff.
- Contribute to professional development activities for teachers and staff.
- Serve as a member of the IEP team, developing social goals and providing virtual social work services to help students achieve them.
- Assist with planning and attending field trips, community events, and state assessments as directed.
- Support student recruitment efforts and participate in marketing activities to build the school community.
- Collaborate closely with School Counselors, Special Education staff, and leadership.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications - Education & Licensure:
- Master’s degree in Social Work.
- Pennsylvania certification as a School Social Worker (CSPG 87).
- Experience:
- Experience supporting at-risk students; special education experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Pennsylvania resources and agencies that support students and families.
- Residency: Must reside in Pennsylvania.
- Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication; confident public speaking skills.
- Highly organized, punctual, and detail-oriented with a student-centered mindset.
- Flexible and able to adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated collaboration and problem-solving skills in a team environment.
- Ability to work independently and remotely with minimal supervision.
- Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite; able to learn new systems quickly.
- Travel: The Social Worker will be required to travel, as needed, to support families. Travel may occasionally require overnight stays.
- Additional:
- Ability to work occasional evening hours to support students and families.
- Two-step authentication required to access school systems upon hire.
