Overview

Northwest Acute Care Specialists, P.C. is an independent emergency medicine and ambulatory care practice group that contracts exclusively with Legacy Health System to provide all of its emergency medicine professional services. NACS provides clinical services to Legacy's emergency departments, pediatric emergency departments, and ambulatory care units.

The Pediatric Emergency Physician is a member of the Legacy Health Medical Staff and is responsible for patient care, consultation and collaboration with other providers, teaching and administrative duties, within the area of Emergency Services.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor9s Degree from an accredited University or College
  • Graduate of four-year U.S. Medical School or equivalent.
  • Licensure/Certification: Board eligible/certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
  • Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the applicable state.
  • Demonstrated ability to satisfy standards of performance delineated by law and associated professional practice standards, the latter set forth as an addendum to the position description
  • Ability to manage heavy workload with multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work
  • Current licensure as required by specific governing board(s)
  • Must have a current Oregon and Washington MD license prior to start date
  • Registered with Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and authorized to prescribe medications according to the Oregon and Washington State Board of Medicine

Position Duties
Clinical Activities
  • Provides direct medical care for children (<18) requiring acute care services at Randall Children's Hospital.
  • Examines, diagnoses and treats illness and injuries in the acute care setting.
  • Provides immediate diagnosis and resuscitation care for life-threatening conditions, and directs the provision of such care in the prehospital setting.
  • Provides diagnosis and care on the basis of medical history, physical examination and diagnostic tests.
  • Provides complete and current documentation of care delivered.
  • Provides supportive care to patients with serious medical and surgical conditions until the care of that patient can be assumed by the appropriate specialist for that condition.
  • Provides definitive or interim care for conditions that while not life-threatening, cause discomfort or risk of worsening to the extent that such care cannot be reasonably delayed until the next available access into a more appropriate source for care.
  • May provide training to medical and nursing personnel in aspects of resuscitations, including identification and treatment of cardiac, traumatic, and infectious emergencies.
  • Adheres to hospital/departmental safety/environment of care education requirements; demonstrates knowledge and skills needed to provide appropriate levels of service to customers in specific age groups; supports and complies with hospitals mission, vision, and values.
Administrative Activities
  • Participates in the development and implementation of standards, policies, protocols, and quality assurance guidelines for patients receiving emergency and urgent care services, together with the administrative team and the medical director.
  • Participates in selecting, training and evaluating personnel providing emergency and urgent care services. Participates with physicians, surgeons, support services and other hospital personnel in coordinating the care of patients receiving emergency and urgent services.
  • Meets regularly with appropriate line administrators and colleagues, to review clinical and administrative issues.
  • Serves on Department, Hospital, and Legacy Health System committees as requested.
