Location: Norfolk, VA Department: AI Cluster Hire Initiative Position Number: F0641A Job Description The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Old Dominion University (ODU) invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor position starting Fall 2025, as part of a multi-position hiring initiative focused on Trustworthy AI . This initiative is part of ODU's Centennial Cluster Initiative to enhance transdisciplinary research by hiring multiple faculty members in specific research areas. The Trustworthy AI cluster involves collaboration among the School of Cybersecurity, Department of Computer Science, and Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice, building on existing strengths at ODU. The position is expected to be tenure-track, with the possibility of an initial appointment with tenure for highly qualified candidates. We seek a criminologist or sociologist whose research focuses on applications of Trustworthy AI in Cyber Criminology, emphasizing Fairness, Accountability, Transparency, and Ethics (FATE) in AI. Responsibilities include teaching online and on-campus courses in our undergraduate Criminal Justice programs and Ph.D. in Criminology & Criminal Justice, as well as developing new courses at the intersection of AI and cyber criminology. Position Type and Requirements Minimum Education: Doctoral degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or Sociology (ABD candidates expected to complete by August 2025 are also considered). Experience and Skills: Ability to teach Cybercrime and Trustworthy AI at undergraduate and/or graduate levels. Research and publication experience in cybercrime and Trustworthy AI. Commitment to diversity and inclusion. For Associate Professor applicants, evidence of success in obtaining federal grants is required. Grant-funded research experience is preferred for Assistant Professor applicants.
