Job Information Job Title: Ambulance Driver – Non-EMT Driver Location: Nashville, TN Department: Acadian Ambulance FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Shift Types: Part-time, Full-time, Temporary Job Summary Provide efficient and timely transportation of sick and injured to medical facilities, nursing homes, and medical appointments, for Basic Life Support calls only, in accordance with local, state, national, and Acadian Ambulance standards. Reports To Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) EMT-Paramedic Operations Supervisor/Coordinator Operations Manager Director of Operations Regional Vice President Special Notation When on duty, the ambulance driver is paired with a medical provider certified as at least an EMT, who rides in the patient compartment with all patients. The term “shuttle vehicle” is used interchangeably with “ambulance” when the driver operates a shuttle vehicle for non‑emergency, ambulatory patients. Equipment Ambulance; stretcher; folding stretcher; radios and computer communications equipment; pager; fire extinguishers; simple mechanic tools; other related equipment may be added as introduced. Duties and Responsibilities Drive ambulance in BLS setting only to provide safe transportation of ill or injured persons to hospitals. Provide transportation for convalescent patients to and from nursing homes, medical facilities, and appointments. Assist in the handling of patients to and from the ambulance. Assist EMT or Paramedics in efficient transfer of patients to receiving personnel at destination. After transport, sanitize vehicle and equipment, remove soiled linens and contaminated supplies. Inspect ambulance, report deficiencies, maintain fluid levels, and replace/refill as necessary. Operate ambulance safely following company driving guidelines. Complete assigned duties such as washing, waxing, interior and exterior cleaning. Carry out other driving‑related duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Current, valid state‑issued driver’s license (Louisiana Class “D” equivalent). Ability to read, write, and communicate professionally with patients, employees, and managers. Knowledge of company protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies related to driving, patient information (HIPAA), lifting, and body mechanics. Minimum one year of driving experience. Ability to drive large vehicles in normal and adverse conditions. Proficiency in determining fastest and safest routes using GPS devices. Interpersonal Requirements Maintain social, ethical, and organizational norms. Maintain strong personal motivation and ownership of job tasks and results. Exhibit a sense of urgency for all work performed. Remain calm and composed under pressure. Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills to comfort and reassure patients, families, and care providers. Training Requirements Orientation to job requirements. Physical Demands Must perform strenuous physical requirements, including lifting and moving heavy equipment and patients, responding quickly to ambulance calls, accessing patients in difficult terrain, climbing stairs, operating in hazardous environments, and carrying heavy equipment. Vision, hearing, and speech requirements are as specified. Additional Physical Requirements Stand, walk, sit, talk/hear, use hands, climb/balance, stoop, reach, taste/smell – with time percentages ranging from none to over two‑thirds. Weight lifting: up to 10 lbs, 25 lbs, 50 lbs, 100 lbs, >100 lbs, all within up to two‑thirds of the time. Vision: color, distance, peripheral, depth perception, focusing – all required. Specific duties include lifting patients, carrying equipment, climbing stairs, and communication. Work environment may involve hazardous materials, electrical emergencies, vehicular accidents, outdoor disaster, chemical exposure, vibration, and noise ranging from moderate to very loud.
